12-Player BUSA 93 Elite Girls Captures PUMA Region III Championship

 Disproving the theory that there’s strength in numbers, the BUSA ’93 Elite Girls defeated five regionally ranked teams en route to capturing the PUMA Region 3 Championship March 5-7 in Smyrna, TN. 

Competing with a roster of only 12 players, BUSA defeated teams from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan to win their bracket in pool play.  A 1-0 win over a Michigan Gators team currently ranked #5 in Region II set up a championship match with Concorde Fire Elite, the #2 ranked team in Georgia.  Trailing 2-0 with only 12 minutes remaining, the girls tapped what little energy remained to tie the score at 2-2 at the end of regulation.  After a scoreless 10-minute overtime, BUSA prevailed 4-2 on penalty kicks.  The win brought the spring record to an outstanding 10-0-1 with the stellar defense allowing a mere 3 goals in the 11 matches. 

The tournament roster consisted of Schyler Arnold, Megan Collins, Jessica Cook, Katie Danehy, Tori Davis, Jessica Dent, Iyani Hughes, Conner McKie, Janea Simpson, Laura Lee Smith, Mary Margaret Underwood and Erin Waldrop.  The team was coached by Andrew Brower.
