Over the course of 2 weekends the team gave up a single goal while scoring twenty!!! During the course of the year, they went undefeated in league play and also won the Mississippi Fire Tournament. In that tournament they avenged a loss to a Louisiana team that they will most likely see at Regionals.  Big Kudos to the team and Coach Jamie for bringing home the championship and good luck in Oklahoma.

Peter Gamble Named BUSA "Coach of the Year!"

 

Peter was named " BUSA Coach of the Year" on Wednesday at the end of the year coaching meeting.  Peter has served with distinction since the inception of BUSA and is one of the most tenured coaches on the competitive staff.   This past season Peter worked with the 01 Elite Red Girls and 01 Elite Blue Girls and did an excellent job.

 

Executive Director Andrew Brower was quoted as saying, " Peter is the quintessence of what we want out of our coaching staff.  He does a fantastic job as a coach by positively mirroring the club's vision on creating crafty, thoughtful, free thinking players who play the game it was intended to be played.  Peter is also a man of excellent character and integrity whose loyalty to the organization and myself is ever so appreciated.  He is a consummate professional and I am so happy to give him this honor!"

BUSA 99 ECNL Goalkeeper Ashley Orkus is currently attending U.S. Soccer U-15 Girls National Team Training Camp in Dallas, Texas.  This is a huge honor for Ashley, her team, and the BUSA organization.  Director of Coaching and 99 ECNL team coach, Andrew Brower said, "This is a tremendous honor and reward for Ashley.  We feel she is a top flight young goalkeeper with tremendous potential, and she has worked extremely hard to get to this point.  We know she will do well and we are proud of her accomplishments"!

 

]]> http://www.birminghamunited.com/home/711247.html BUSA ANNOUNCES WPSL TEAM! 03/11/2013 12:47 PM http://www.birminghamunited.com/home/697730.html Birmingham United is proud to announce that we are starting a WPSL (Women’s Premier Soccer League) team in Birmingham this summer that will play under the banner of Alabama F.C.!!  The team will mainly be comprised of players who have played for BUSA who are currently playing collegiate soccer.  This will also provide our current U-18 ECNL players and top U-17 ECNL players an avenue to be challenged and grow in the game before they head off to college in the near future!

BUSA is committed to providing a competitive soccer environment to our current and former members.  We are very excited to offer this opportunity for our players to compete at the national level in a professional environment while maintaining their amateur status.  BUSA WPSL Coach Joel Person commented, "This is an excellent way for our current and former players to continue to develop during the summer months!  It also provides a platform for our younger players to look up to and aspire to play for the team one day."

The team will be coached by Joel Person (BUSA ECNL Director and former Head Coach at Francis Marion University), Kevin Laux (BUSA Staff Coach and former Asst. Coach at the University of Mobile), and Andrew Brower (BUSA Director of Coaching).

Over the past two weekends the BUSA 99 Elite Girls played in the AYSA Powerade DI State Cup tournament. During the preliminary round the girls faced Huntsville FC first and came out of that game with a 6-0 win. The following day the team took on United Soccer Club. The outcome of this game would determine if the team would advance as the top team from their bracket or as the second seed. The girls battled hard to a 1-1 tie which was enough to put them at the top of their bracket and into the Semi-Final round where they would face Trussville. The BUSA 99 Elite girls would have a week to get themselves prepared for the upcoming State Semi-finals. After a great week of training the girls showed up this past weekend ready to go. They beat Trussville 2-0 in the semi-final match to earn the right to play for the AYSA State title. In the Championship game the team faced a very talented Vestavia group. After going down 0-1 during the first half, the team pulled together and fought back in the second half to score the tying goal and sending the game into overtime. Going into two 5 minute overtimes the team fought hard and left every ounce of energy out on the field. With two minutes left in the second overtime the BUSA 99 Elite girls would give up a goal to go 1-2 down which would end up being the final score of the game.

 

Congratulations to the BUSA 99 Elite girls, Coach Kat and Coach Matt on a successful season and a successful State Cup tournament.

Jamie McClendon, Boys’ Director of Coaching states," Josh is an outstanding goalkeeper with shot stopping ability that allows him to make saves that ordinary goalkeepers struggle with. His work ethic and attitude will propel him into playing a major role in the net for Central College next season. I am happy for Josh and his family as I know he will represent BUSA well throughout the next four years."

Congratulations to the BUSA 00 Elite Blue team coached by Boys' Director of Coaching, Jamie McClendon, for going 3-1 and finishing as finalist at the FC Alliance Cup. The team beat southeast power SSA Elite Chelsea 6-1 in group play by playing a dominating attacking style of soccer where BUSA created and scored many in the highly competitive contest. The boys also beat Tennessee Soccer Club 3-1 and FC Alliance 5-0.  Jamie stated, "I am very proud of the style of soccer the boys are playing, possessing the ball long periods of time and attacking the goal by breaking down defenses in a methodical manner. To beat a team like SSA Chelsea in a convincing manner shows we are creating the environment in training to be successful against top teams."

The girls started off the tournament with a 3-1 victory over the HFC Academy Storm 02 from Hattiesburg. The half time score was 2-0. Midway through the second half, HFC put one in the back of the net. BUSA fought to the end and put one more in the back of the net with a few seconds remaining in the game.

 

The second game of the tournament was 0-0 against MFC U10G from Meridian. BUSA had multiple chances to score, but nothing fell.

 

On Sunday, the girls finished the tournament with a 1-0 victory against the Lady Fuel from Pearl River. This win put them first place in the Under 11 Girls Bronze bracket!

In the 2nd game of the weekend, despite the 35 mph North wind blowing across the field and the 35 degree temperature, the girls came out ready to play. They took on SSA Chelsea Central, and despite having trouble finding the back of the net the girl would go on to win the game 2-0.

In their Sunday morning match the girls played Concorde Fire North Black. With the game tied 1-1 in the last minutes of the game the 99 Elite girls went hard into the attack, they wound up hitting the cross-bar 4 times in the last 30 seconds of the game which would leave the game tied. But the tie was enough to move the girls into the final match.

In the finals the girls would play CSA Charlotte SA Copa. The team jumped out to an early lead only to give up a goal minutes before half time. In a very evenly matched game the second half would see a number of shots on goal by both teams but would remain tied at the end of regulation. Tied 1-1, the girls found themselves going to a PK shootout to determine the winner of the game. The girls fell short in the shoot out losing 3-2, and would bring home the sliver med

Over all, it was a great weekend of play for the 99 Elite Girls. They fought though unfavorable weather conditions and never let down.
