Passing and Receiving Session 1

Exercise 1- Two touch passing

  • 6×1 minute rounds (30 second rest) . Alternating right foot and left foot for each round.
  • Pass the ball off the wall and back into the box, control ball inside of the box and repeat.
  • Move the box closer or further away to make easier/harder.
  • Go for accuracy over speed! Look to make accurate passes and keep the ball in the box.
  • Key coaching points: Inside of the foot to pass and receive, heel down toe up when we pass, body facing the direction we want the ball to go, on our toes and soft touch to receive.

 

Exercise 2- One touch passing

  • 5×1 minute rounds (30 second rest) . We should be using both feet within each round.
  • Move the box closer or further away to make easier/harder.
  • Go for accuracy over speed! Look to make accurate passes and keep the ball in the box.
  • Key coaching points: Inside of the foot to pass, heel down toe up when we pass, body facing the direction we want the ball to go, on our toes as we receive, focus on weight of the pass and don’t hit the ball to hard.

 

Exercise 3- Pass, Receive, Dribble

  • 4×90 second rounds (30 second rest). We should be using both feet within each round.
  • Receive the ball in the box, turn and dribble away. Try to dribble about 5 yards from the box, you can use extra cones/markers if you like.
  • Turn out different sides of the box each time (as shown on video).
  • Go for accuracy over speed! Look to make accurate passes and keep ball under control when dribbling.
  • Key coaching points: Inside of the foot to pass, heel down toe up when we pass, body facing the direction we want the ball to go, on our toes as we receive, focus on weight of the pass and don’t hit the ball to hard, turn our body as we receive in the direction we want to go, keep the ball close when dribbling.
